Playing Craps at Gaming Club Casino

Just like Roulette, Craps has been a popular casino game for hundreds of years and is based on a dice game called Hazard, which was first played in Western Europe. In Hazard, more perimeters can be set by players in each round; Craps is a simplified version. When Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville arrived from Europe and settled in Louisiana, he introduced the easier variation to his field hands as a way to pass the time.

Soon the game made its way down the Mississippi River. The name is believed to be derived from the word “crabs” which sounded like “Craps” in the Louisiana dialect. At the time, “Crabs” was London slang for the numbers 2 and 3. Since these are the only numbers that mean an instant loss in the game, it’s easy to see why they were important enough to have it named after them.

Although it is one of the most successful casino games in Ireland and around the world, Craps originally became widespread because it was so easy to play in the street. Very little equipment is used, and any group of people with dice can enjoy it. In turn, this made it a hit with American World War II soldiers.

When the veterans came home, they brought it to Las Vegas. Craps was a natural fit for online casino sites, as you’ll soon see when you try our versions! Learn a little more about these casino games below, and then try them out for yourself.

Basic Bets in Craps

Whether you are playing at a casino online or on land, the rules of this game are the same. The original wagers were the Pass Bets, named after the French word for “pace”. In brick-and-mortar casino tables, unfair dice were sometimes used to cheat. This led dice maker John H. Winn to introduce Don’t Pass Bets.

As time went on, more stakes were introduced. The simplest of these were the Come and Don’t Come Bets. Once you’ve mastered these essentials, other wagers can be placed in the casino games. There are 2 phases in each round, called the Come Out Phase and the Point Phase. Essentially, you are always betting on whether the Shooter (who is throwing the dice) will win or lose – this is known as betting with or against the Shooter.

The Come Out Phase

Before the Come Out Roll, you place a Pass or a Don’t Pass Bet, that the Shooter will win or lose respectively. At our online casino, the results are created completely fairly, using Random Number Generation. If the dice show a 7 or 11 the Shooter wins; a 12, 3 or 2 mean they lose. If you placed a Pass Bet and the Shooter won, you are paid out. The same is true if you placed a Don’t Pass Bet, and the Shooter lost. If any other number is rolled, that becomes the Point and the game moves on to the Point Phase.

The Point Phase

During this stage, casino players choose their own Point. Your chosen Point and the Point that was established in the Come Out Phase are both in play. If the Shooter lands either of these they win, and any other dice total means they lose. The bets you place here are the Come and Don’t Come wagers, which work in the same way as Pass and Don’t Pass. A Come Bet wins if the Shooter wins; a Don’t Come Bet wins if the Shooter loses.
